Green Week 2015: “A responsible attitude to use and protection”

Farm Experience in Hall 3.2 provides details about the many and varied achievements of agriculture and the food industry

Berlin, 16 October 2014 - “A responsible attitude to use and protection” is the slogan that one of the main attractions for the public at the International Green Week Berlin 2015 (16-25 Jan.) is using to invite visitors to the Farm Experience in Hall 3.2. More than 60 partners are providing practical insights into the many and varied achievements of agriculture, the food industry and associated sectors. Day after day safe foodstuffs, energy and raw materials of the highest quality are being produced in Germany. The exhibition is divided into six sections, showing visitors how this is achieved, and the added value chains that make it all possible. There is plenty to fascinate, inform and surprise young and old alike, who can also learn about the way that agriculture meets its responsibilities towards people, animals and the environment. It also offers opportunities for a dialogue with the people responsible for agricultural produce and foodstuffs.

“Science & Research” form the basis for the continued expansion of agriculture in Germany. Presentations in this section of the exhibition include interactive displays of new and innovative aspects by the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment and by the Board for Technology and Construction in Agriculture (KTBL), as well as invitations to take part in experiments, for example, by the Green Laboratory Gatersleben.

The section devoted to “Plant Production” focuses on ways of protecting the soil. To mark the UN Year of Soils, the presentations place a particular emphasis on today’s agriculture and its awareness of its ecological responsibilities. The intention is also to encourage all visitors to reflect on what they actually know about our soils. The latest tractors and agricultural machinery are being used to show how inventiveness and innovations can ensure that resources are applied efficiently and carefully, in the interests of the soil and ecology.

There are three genuine highlights in the “Livestock Production” section, which no visitor should miss. Topical issues such as livestock husbandry, breeding, feeding and health, as well as processing will be addressed around the Pig Mobile, a turkey shed and a cow shed, and partners will be invited to take part in a dialogue. Visitors will be shown how a responsible approach to livestock husbandry provides a link between the well-being and protection of animals, and productivity. Examples of how raw materials are processed can be seen in the demonstration butchery and the glass-walled bakery, and visitors can also sample curried sausage, rolls and pretzels.

Exhibitors in the section dealing with “Agriculture & Society” include the Countrywomen’s Organisation, Social Security for Agriculture, Forests and Horticulture, the Rural Youth Organisation, the churches and the food aid charity Deutsche Welthungerhilfe, who will be explaining the many social activities in this sector.

The final section in the Farm Experience is the so-called “Meeting Point” in the centre of the hall. During a long day at the fair this is an ideal place to relax, enjoy the entertainment and information provided by the “Farm Experience TV” studio, or refresh oneself in the catering area with food and beverages from the asparagus producer Spargelhof Jakobs from Beelitz. The German Farmers’ Union (DBV) and the Sustainable Agriculture Organisation (FNL) are also close by. For groups from day care centres and schools the i.m.a. Information Centre with its cereals display makes a particularly fascinating starting point with a wealth of activities.
