International Green Week at a Glance
Established in 1926, International Green Week is taking place for the 82nd time in 2017. The IGW is a one-of-a-kind international exhibition for the food, agricultural and horticultural industries. At the same time, the IGW is the point of origin for the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) with more than 60 departmental ministers. Producers from all over the world come to IGW to test market food and luxury items and reinforce their brand image. Following consumer trends, regional sourcing plays an increasingly important role. Renewable resources, organic agricultural, rural development and gardening continue to gain importance at International Green Week.
- The IGW features a comprehensive range of international foods and luxury items
- Fresh products of all types
- Product markets, beer, wine and champagne, meats and sausages, seafood, teas, herbs and spices
- Agricultural and horticultural machinery and equipment, seeds, greenhouses and gardening supplies, breeding stock, pets, hunting and fishing supplies.
Furthermore, the IGW provides a special section featuring kitchen appliances, kitchen fixtures and household items. Information is available to trade visitors from the official foreign exhibitor stands and from the federal states of Germany.
The International Green Week attracts consumers from Germany and neighbouring countries, including the following:
- Food industry representatives, wholesalers, retailers, caterers
- Agricultural importers
- International specialists from all fields of agriculture, forestry, horticulture and commercial fishing
- Agricultural policy and administration experts
- More than 5,000 journalists (trade press and consumer media) from 70 countries
The success of the Green Week was widely covered in the Press: In 15,000 newspaper and trade journal reports in Germany as well as in 400 telecasts and more than 1,500 radio reports.
Supporting Programme of the Green Week
The IGW supporting programme was extremely comprehensive with more than 300 forums, seminars, conferences and committee meetings. Many of the events sponsored by agricultural and food industry commissions extend over a period of several days.
Professional events: Highlights included the 8th International Agricultural Ministers’ Conference in conjunction with Berlin's 8th Agricultural Ministers’ Summit. The biggest events were the 8th International Agricultural and Food Industry Forum, the 9th Future Forum for Rural Development and the Biofuel Congress.
In terms of agricultural policy, the importance of the exhibition is clearly demonstrated by the presence of 200 international ministers and state secretaries in addition to prime ministers, ministers and state secretaries from Germany.
The Fresh Meat Forum professional seminar will once again focus on the latest industry issues next year. In addition, the food industry presents the refining process of foods and the food retail presents itself as an important link to our customer.
