Green Week 2016: Exhibition of German breeding rams
1st National Breeding Ram Display on 22 and 23 January at the International Green Week 2016 in Berlin
Berlin, 28 October 2015 – This is the first time that the best examples of German breeding rams will be competing in a national competition. On 22 and 23 January, the second weekend of the Green Week, the National Breeding Ram Display will be exhibiting Germany’s many sheep breeds and highlighting what they produce in the various regions around Germany. The breeds due to be shown are prize-winning sheep, bred for meat, wool and milk products, as well as coarsewool sheep and merinos. The Vereinigung Deutscher Landesschafzuchtverbände e. V. (VDL) expects that some 200 breeding rams representing 20 different breeds will be on display. The International Green Week Berlin will be taking place on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds (Berlin ExpoCenter Airport) from 15 to 24 January 2016.
The permanent exhibition of the VDL is also worth a visit. In addition to showing various breeds the exhibition provides an insight into the many tasks involved, such as shearing and herding sheep. The exhibition places a special focus on the processing of sheepswool, a natural product, and shows how wool is processed as well as spun, knitted and made into felt. These are activities that are popular with young visitors, kindergarten groups and school parties. The comprehensive information provided highlights the many different activities carried out by shepherds as well as the importance of keeping sheep in Germany. The first National Breeding Ram Display is an event that is worth a visit for experts and those interested in keeping sheep alike.
