Klöckner opens Green Week 2020 accompanied by numerous ministers

On Friday morning, accompanied by numerous ministers, Federal Minister of Agriculture Julia Klöckner opened the Green Week 2020 with Governing Mayor of Berlin Michael Müller. Together, and with the media attending in large numbers, they visited numerous displays by countries and states and the stands of associations.

After a photo opportunity on the stand of the partner country Croatia in the presence of Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Minister of Agriculture Marija Vučković, the politicians continued on their tour, visiting the hall of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture where they found out how improving animal welfare on the farm affects meat prices and that digital technology reduces pesticide use. On the combined display of Africa, Tunisian staff on the stand presented Federal Minister for Development Gert Müller with a gift basket. Together with the ministers of agriculture of Lithuania, Sweden, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Austria, the visitors savoured culinary delights.

Michael Müller praised the fact that the Green Week addressed current issues such as sustainability and environmental awareness. It was very positive to see how farmers were embracing this and wanted to have the same goals as consumers, he said. “On the one hand farms need to make a decent livelihood, on the other we want to have good products on the table, which is what consumers also expect.“ Minister Klöckner said that consumers had high expectations of the farming, forestry and fisheries industries. They would have to change in order for their economic activities to become more sustainable. One thing would not change however, “an appreciation of food, the environment and agriculture.”
