International Green Week 2021 to be held as an entirely virtual event

The International Green Week will take place from 20 to 21 January as an entirely virtual event. The reason for this is the high level of coronavirus infections in Germany. ”We had designed the concept flexibly from the start, so switching from a hybrid to a virtual format presents no problem“, said Lars Jaeger, the project manager for the International Green Week at Messe Berlin.

IGW Digital: programme will be live-streamed

Taking as its slogan ’Rooting for Tomorrow’, the focus of next year’s International Green Week will be on the latest topics in the farming and food industries and horticulture. ”Our stages will become a TV studio“, said Lars Jaeger. Both the opening press conference and the opening event with the non-commercial sponsors as well as lectures and discussion rounds will be live-streamed on the internet and available to the wider public. Under the heading ’100 per cent virtual, or back to normal? New forms of work and participation - an opportunity for rural areas’, the Future Forum on Rural Developmentorganised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture will provide a virtual platform for dialogue, discussion and exchanging knowledge

The 2021 programme also features the Startup Days and the presentation of the Regional Star Award. At the Startup Daysthe search will be on for agri-tech and food-tech startups with scalable and market-ready products able to meet UN sustainability targets. At IGW Digital the startups will deliver their pitches to a high-level panel of judges. Those with the best ideas will subsequently receive individual expert coaching from the LEH and the food and farming industries. The deadline for submissions is 15 December.

Sustainability is also the main focus of the Regional Star Award. The Deutsche Regionalpreis award is presented by the trade magazine Lebensmittel Praxis and the International Green Week for forward-looking concepts emphasising regional production in the categories Innovation, Presentation, Cooperation and Organisation.

At IGW Digital Germany’s federal states, the official representations of numerous countries, professional associations, institutions and ministries will also be taking part.

GFFA: ’How to feed the world?’

‘How to feed the world in times of pandemics and climate change?’ That is the question the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) will be asking. The event will take place parallel with IGW Digital from 18 to 22 January 2021. Next year the GFFA’s focus will be on a virtual dialogue, while established forums and podium discussions will continue to take place. At the GFFA some 2,000 international figures representing politics, business, science and society will debate food and agricultural policy issues.
