”After a successful kickoff of the IGW Startup Days last year, we want to once again show that young companies, who often have unconventional ideas, are not only able to take an active role in shaping the future of the food industry, but that they must do so!"
- Lars Jaeger, Events Director, International Green Week, Messe Berlin GmbH
Wednesday, 23 January und Thursday, 24 January 2019
On these two days everything in the Professional Center of International Green Week revolves around Startups. With the IGW Startup Days, Messe Berlin gives young companies from the food industry the chance to come into contact with important decision-makers from the food-retailing business, as well as other experts and key influencers: 20 selected founders introduce their business ideas and products in pitch sessions, competing in front of the jury and will also present their products/services in a special exhibition area. Food experts, funding/support specialists and other important food industry partners deliver exciting keynotes and reveal what’s currently driving the industry. Admission to the Professional Center is only available to trade visitors of International Green Week.

Review 2018: The Winners
The winners of the first Startup Day at the International Green Week have been announced.
The first prize went to nearBees, a Munich-based website marketing honey products from local producers all over Germany. ’Find honey next door’ is their slogan which targets retailers and consumers alike.
The second prize went to Bickus from northern Hesse. This is the name under which several farms have formed a company processing meat from laying hens when they no longer lay eggs, rather than leaving them to the industry.
And lastly, the panel awarded third prize to Hiddenseer Kutterfisch, a canned fish company from Rügen, which apart from devoting itself to promoting local products also campaigns for gillnetting in the waters around the island.
