Special anniversary editions: Enjoyment galore for your birthday

Many exhibitors have developed specialities for Grüne Woche. For example, Berlin-based brewery BRLO has brought along its fruity pilsner ‘100 Years of Grüne Woche’, which it is only serving here.

It has been 100 years since the Grüne Woche first opened its doors at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. The milestone birthday is being celebrated not only with a special exhibition, but also with plenty of culinary delights. The anniversary has inspired many exhibitors to create special editions, some of which are only available at the fair.

At the stand of the Berlin-based BRLO Brewery in Hall 21, Lionel Samuels is serving the anniversary pilsner. The trained chef is studying brewing at the Technical University of Berlin and worked as a student trainee on the development of the craft beer ‘100 Years of Grüne Woche’. ‘Its fruity aromas make it very special,’ he says. The hops and malt come from German farms, such as the Eckert organic farm in Franconia. Visitors can enjoy the pilsner from a bottle or on tap.

Bread and milk from Brandenburg

Just a few steps further on in the Brandenburg Hall, a long queue has formed at the Hemme Milch stand. In addition to yoghurt, quark and cocoa, Grüne Woche milk is also on display in the refrigerated display case. And not only there: since the beginning of the year, the Uckermark dairy has also been supplying supermarkets with green-printed milk cartons. A QR code on the packaging provides further information about the Grüne Woche. ‘The milk is extremely popular with trade fair visitors,’ says sales manager Katja Mooskamp.

What would a milestone birthday be without the perfect cake? The Henning bakery in Saxony-Anhalt has done a fantastic job and created a ten-tiered Baumkuchen cake. The cake is artfully decorated and almost too beautiful to cut. However, smaller pieces of Baumkuchen with a green hundred on top are available to take away.

Flowers for the birthday boy or girl are also a must, of course. The Netherlands, which was the first international exhibitor at Grüne Woche 75 years ago, is dedicating its own tulip variety called ‘Berlin Jubilee’ to Grüne Woche. Happy Birthday!

Dana Dornuff from the Exner bakery in Beelitz has been attending the Grüne Woche since 2016. The Brandenburgers have come up with something special for the 100th anniversary of Grüne Woche. Every day there is a different show bread. ‘Our bakers have free rein, I don't even know myself what they will create,’ says Dana Dornuff. The bread is on display and the first person to come to the stand at 5 p.m. gets it for free.

The perfect coffee to go with it is available at Café SíerrAzul in the summer garden in Hall 10.2. The beans come from the Colombian region of Risaralda and give it a soft vanilla aroma.
