Berlin to savour - startups and tradition in a flavour frenzy

In Hall 22a, tradition meets a colourful mix of start-ups. There is a story behind every product.

Berlin is an eventful city. People come and go, the city gives them something and they give something back. The ‘Give Something Back to Berlin’ initiative is a great example of how new and long-established Berliners can work together, enrich each other and make the city a little more colourful, creative and diverse in the process. This idea has been lived out for years in the Berlin hall at Grüne Woche, where traditional companies and startups mingle.

Loving raw food delicacies

Tsvetana Dinkova has been a Berliner for 22 years. Born in Bulgaria, she is not only brightening up Grüne Woche up to and including Sunday with her confectionery manufactory Trivitys (22a/121), but also offers her ‘Raw Petits’ in her café at Florastrasse 27 in Berlin. The handmade creations made from various superfoods are organic, vegan, gluten-free and have no added sugar. Each mini tartlet has a name. The beetroot and chilli praliné is called Penelope, the mango-ginger-turmeric praliné Shiva. At Grüne Woche, Tsvetana will be presenting new creations such as fig date with a delicious biscuit base. We also recommend the vegan spread ‘Datys’ with cocoa and Medjoul dates.

Trivitys exists because Tsvetana was diagnosed with cancer eleven years ago and subsequently focussed intensively on the topic of nutrition. She opened her café on 1 March 2020 and had to close it again on 16 March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Since 2022, she has established herself in Pankow with her carefully and lovingly prepared delicacies. ‘Every crisis is overcome,’ she says with a laugh.

Quick organic ready meals for the daily madness with children

Vegetarian flavours continue with the frozen organic ready meals from ratzfatz for children aged one and over (Hall 22a/117). ‘We don't want to replace cooking. We see ourselves as an emergency product for those moments that we all know as parents, when you come home stressed out or the children are hungry again shortly after breakfast,’ says Sarina, who founded the company together with her friends Luisa and Maraike and has already appeared on “Lion's Den”.

The sauces contain lots of vegetables, such as pureed beetroot or spinach. Sugar and additives are nowhere to be found, everything is organic and vegetarian and, incidentally, also suitable for adults who are looking for a healthy meal that can be prepared quickly in the daily office madness. Ratzfatz was at Grüne Woche for just two days. If you missed the show, you won't have to wait long: The dishes will be available in Edeka shops in Berlin from February.

From Jerusalem artichoke syrup to Curry 36

Anyone interested in sugar alternatives should stop by K&K Solutions, which offers Jerusalem artichoke syrup (22a/112 and 119). Jerusalem artichoke is a crop whose tuber is vaguely reminiscent of ginger. However, it does not taste spicy, but slightly nutty to sweet and is therefore ideal for sweetening muesli, yoghurt, salads or other foods and drinks.

LikeHome offers hummus and sesame paste in different variations (22a/123) and, of course, the original Berlin companies are not to be missed: Curry 36 (22a/105), Confiserie Rausch with the Brandenburg Gate made of chocolate (22a/102) and Florida Eis from Spandau (22a/103), who have a Pitti Platsch plush figure at their stand.
